Overview

The Professor's private lesson begins well: his pupil seems remarkably gifted. Suddenly he discovers she cannot subtract. The lesson gets more frenzied as he persists in forcing her to understand subtraction. Maddened by her insensibility, he'stabs her. The maid clucks with dismay. This, she complains, is the fortieth to be stabbed today.
